Translating Change in HealthCare

Change is inevitable in healthcare.  As a practice scholar, it is imperative to be informed of the daily changes that affect patient care and outcomes.  From the novice nurse to the DNP prepared, nurses should remain up to date with the constant transformations occurring within the health care system.  A nurse’s job is never-ending as they continue to learn to expand their knowledge, skills, and judgment to ensure a high level of professional performance (Boothe & Macias, 2020).

  • What strategies will you use to stay informed about current best available evidence?

Staying informed about current best available evidence means the practice scholar will take advantage of opportunities, which will enhance their career and promote optimal patient care and outcomes overall.  As a practice scholar, strategies that can be used include joining a professional organization, completing webinar registrations, and attending conferences.  Professional organizations offer a vast amount of resources with networking.  They also grant accessibility to webinars and conferences at discounted rates, which may contribute to earing continuing education units (CEUs) (Faust, 2019).  With consideration of the times the world is currently experiencing from the pandemic, webinars are another strategic form suitable for staying knowledgeable about the best evidence.  There is an added benefit of learning online in the comfort of the practice scholar’s professional or personal environment.  On many occasions, webinars may be most beneficial due to their cost-effective measures of being free (Faust, 2019).  Conferences may incur registration fees but provide a wealth of information on the newest advancements, have speakers with specified certifications that pertain to the topic of discussion, and gives the change for networking (Faust, 2019).  Other strategies to ensure practice scholars stay informed include uploading or subscribing to apps such as UpToDate.  These few strategies notes will enable the practice scholar to remain current while attaining the goal of implementing change into practice.

  • What strategies will you use to disseminate current best available evidence to those you lead?

Strategies to incorporate for dissemination of current best available evidence to those being lead are creating a plan and consider the population that will be affected by the best evidence.  In leading others, it is vital to assess the readiness for acceptance and change with proper planning for implementation.  Also, it is important to educate those individuals being led to make certain there is an understanding, and the evidence is applied effectively (Schipper et al., 2016).

  • In recent history, there is little to no indication of the sustainability of evidence to reduce the eight national problems. What strategies will you use to ensure the sustainability of evidence-based practice?

Sustainability of evidence-based practice can be problematic in certain healthcare settings.  Being employed in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) presents as a challenge for maintaining evidence-based practice due to ineffective training, time constraints, lack of organization, and limited feedback.  With FQHCs noted as public health or community settings facing such issues, appropriate planning is recommended to ensure the sustainability of evidence-based practice (Hailemariam et al., 2019).
