Psychology of Human Rights and Democracy

Question 1:   SO1:   Demonstrate understanding of the different schools of thought in the human rights and democratic field ( 200 words)

Select one of the different schools of thought that you associate yourself with most. For example, you are a person with an activist type of personality who always fight for something –for yourself and others.   You will thus see yourself as somebody aligned with the Protest School of Thought.

Question 2:   SO2:   Provide a historical perspective of human rights and democracy SO3:    Describe the  instruments that  developed  in  response  to human rights violations (250 words)

Discuss one gross human right violation in history and discuss one factor that lead to the development of human right instruments. (Note: a human right violation is for instance the Holocaust and factors include: political, socio, economical, environmental, etc).

Question 3. (400 words) Taking in consideration the Universal Declaration of Human Rights discuss how human rights and democratic principles and values affect individual behavior and attitudes in your community. Discuss eight principles and values.

Question 4.  (400 words) Taking in consideration Chapter 2 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa of 1994, discuss the actions against foreign immigrants (Xenophobia) in South Africa as human rights violation. Recommend human rights response by referring to the Bill and other possible interventions.

Question 5.   (400 words) Taking in consideration Chapter 2 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa of 1994, evaluate the adequacy of interventions against farm  murders  in  South Africa. Recommend a human rights response to the actions in terms of legislation and instruments used.
