MGT306- Strategic Management Report and Presentation

Task:

Students need to form a group of 2-4 by Week 4. Students will be given a business scenario and are required to use their knowledge learned from this unit to prepare a simulation game report.  In each week tutorial session, each group need to participate in the simulation game based on the specific weekly tasks. In week 12 each group need to submit a simulation report based on their progress throughout their journey with the game and provide a 15 -20 minutes in class group presentation on their report. Student having the highest market share wins the game. The assignment is divided into 3 sections:

1. Proposal Report – 10% – Due in Week 5 – It will be assumed that students have played the tutorial of the game until week 4 and hence know how to play the game. Hence as a group, students have to write down their initial strategies as a group against the other group and how they plan to achieve an upper hand against the competitor. (1000 words)

2. Interim Report – 10% – Final report due by Week 11 – Each week, while students play the game against the competitor, they will have to take notes for the following: (2000 words)

  • The strategies, (if changed, why they changed it from their initial strategy)
  • Decisions made as a Group
  • Market position for each week
  • Profits/Losses made each week
  • Loans and wages paid
  • Operational details
  • Students also have to provide screenshots for each week so the numbers can be matched accordingly
  • Meeting minutes of the group
  • Self-Reflection

3. Presentation – 10% – Week 11 -13 – Presentation of the entire experience including self-reflection – 15 minutes presentation (5 minutes each group member)

Weekly Task:

Week 1 – Week 4 Group Formation and students start with Tutorial
Week 2 – Week 4 Gradually the game starts, adding more features and the complexity of the game increases.

Students can add the features according to their pace until week 4 to familiarise themselves with all the features

Week 5 Proposal Report to be submitted

Students start the actual game and compete against other allotted group– They can sell their commodities on one planet each week while taking care of maintenance, costs, loans, salaries etc

Week 6 – Week 11 Start selling your commodities and earn profits yet on another planet. Students to take notes for the Interim Report. By Week 11 – student to submit the interim report
Week 12 End of Game, Game Report Submission and in class presentation (Week 11,12,13)
